In 1945, at the end of World War II, this island had only two resident families. The Yugoslavian government built new homes on the mainland for them and remodeled all of the old fisherman's cottages into luxury hotel rooms. The resort has a causeway to the mainland, excellent restaurants and great serenity, which was not marred by the latest war because the island is controlled by the Serbian government in Belgrade.
